We Need to Get Back to Work (Disclaimer Regarding Tough Love)

Agree or disagree, we need to get back to work. We’re not trying to provoke a Thanksgiving like debate about testing, vaccination or the greater good. We just believe that the longer we wait to face our new reality, the more we have to lose. 

New reality? We’re all going to reenter a world where COVID-19 still exists, and where vaccination and mass testing are not ready. That means that the risk of contracting COVID-19 will still be our new reality and our most vulnerable will still need to take precautions. 

On the bright-side and as a result of our brave men and women on the front lines… survival rates are increasing, and several treatments are promising. 

If you’re still reading this and we hope that you are, what we say next may come across as tough love… but love, nonetheless. 

As we look back on it all, there are facts we all need to face. This is one of the most contagious viruses ever known and as hard as its been, social distancing has been effective. It preys on those with compromised immune systems due to age, lifestyle or genetic predisposition. 

Regardless of age, if you have Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity or Cancer, you’re at greater risk. Now for the tough love, most of these conditions are lifestyle related and to a certain degree can be prevented. 

We said love and we mean it… so what can we do? 

The most promising treatments are using the immune system to fight the virus, (see; Hydroxychloroquine or Remdesivir) and there are things you can do to strengthen yours.

How to strengthen your immune system according to Harvard University:

  • Don’t smoke
  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly
  • Try to minimize stress
